Aspens late Sept
Fall is a shoulder season here in Colorado — the transition journey from summer to winter, warmth to cold, light to dark.  I squeezed in one last hike in the mountains on the last weekend of September, climbing through rain to feel the snow at the top of a mountain in the Collegiate Range, to stand in awe of the ancient trees there, lifting their heads with such strength and grace in the quietly falling snow.  I was alone.  The scene was magnificent.  The walk down was a steady descent for several miles, until I reached the almost feminine delicacy of shimmering aspens next to a stream that was leaping down the hillside.
I had spent many hours in these mountains during the summer, but now it was clear that summer was gone.  My senses took in the change in every way, and the hike became a metaphor for other transitions.
Like the earth….like the travelers through a labyrinth….we are all on a journey through cycles of life, and the transitions that unite them.
I offer this for consideration:
In whatever transition you now face, what do you leave behind?  What do you bring with you?  And what are you going forward to?

To be more specific, what do you leave behind reluctantly?  And what are you glad to put down and will not return to?  What do you carry forward from your past into the new chapter that is opening?  And what do you look forward to “picking up” in life experiences that are new to you?
These elements are basic to all transitions in life.  Pausing to reflect on them can add immensely to our experience of the transition, and to our growing in wisdom.  Living with intention is ever so much richer than letting life simply wash over us or pull us along without reflection or clear purpose.
As a Life-Cycle Celebrant, I capture the stories in life.  I listen, and reflect them back to you.  I bring them out to be honored.  Each of us has the original light of Creation in us….we are literally made from the dust of stars.
“Story” connects us to the universe and each other.  If you would like to experience those connections by honoring the transitions in your life through story and ritual  that is personally meaningful to you — contact me.  I would be honored to work with you.
